2.05 "Stupid"

Today morning, we went to Coca Cola factory to see how their production line works. To my surprise, it is rather small. By looking and estimating the size of it, I think it's about 200m x 200m per room. It has a total of 4 different rooms, comprising of the water containers, preparing the bottles & fill, the mixture of the coke's ingredients, and packaging & distribution of the drink bottles.

cocacola
jacob ronaldo, too bad roberto carlos isn't inside (carlos is sad)
forbidden object

Although it's small, but I heard that it could produce about 150,000 bottles a day within the factory itself. I think it's quite alot already. It was quite a fun day over there but its period of stay is abit short. We spent about 1hr + over there only. Anyway it's a good experience and a catch up session with other students in our campus. I think I might get a wrong information about it over here, but somehow the factory is about like this.
coke collectibles

We're actually forbidden to take photos, but in the end, "Ji-kia, Ji-kia", taken! what do you think?

We received a sourvenir when we reached there. (a bottle of chilled coke!)

After the short trip, we went back to have lunch over at a wan ton stall near WUST. In my opinion, I think that stall serve the 2nd best food followed by a resturant near yj's house.
wan-ton

Today I dropped my Rollei the 2nd time and my Handphone the 4th time in China, but still surviving.

Reflections of today:
After chit chatting with yj, I got to know one of China's policy which is only 1 child is recommended per family, otherwise the family will be fined, or maybe I call it in better terms, which is to pay extra $ for that. Today I stayed out too late getting to know more about yj and I missed the curfew timing and caused my room-mate to attend a briefing for me. For that, I ought to learn to be more responsible as a leader. I really want to thanks guoyuan for stepping in for me.

Some random stuffs, chit chatting with Mr. Tan during mid-night:
- Every freshmen in WUST, they have to go through uniform group training for their first year. Ladies & Gentlemen, all is included in that activity. This is very interesting as Singapore doesn't have this culture.
- In the past, during 1982-1985, Ngee Ann is considered as a Private college and Singapore Polytechnic was famous at that time. Namely "Ngee Ann technical college"

He's humble and friendly! And he's good in Chinese Chess!
Yuan Jia, have a super enjoyable weekends with your prison break and have fun! ^^

2.04 What a Day!

Today woke up nearly late again and rushed to get ready for lesson. These few days the weather turned cooler. Yesterday it drizzle almost the entire night.

Walking from dorm. to class is about 1km+ and to that, we felt very cold because of the cold wind. Studying the local students behavior, they don't looked like they are feeling cold as they wore very little clothes. I think we're ought to adapt to the cold weather now!

Vegetable rice in canteen 3 (totalled about 10RMB)

After lunch, we had alot of things to do. As assignment is coming to a start next week, we are supposed to finish an exercise given by Mr. Tan this afternoon. We took awhile to complete it, mainly due to the craziness we went ahead in class. But anyway, the exercise was good when we get our minds & hands on, thinking of what is needed to be included in a project. Never I thought that a project management could be so complex, until today.

Zheng wei, Bingrong and myself went to play basketball about 5+ and we played 4 v 4 with the local students. We lost (7 - 11). I've to admit they are good eh!

In the evening, I went out to discuss with the rest of the leaders about the interaction activities for next wednesday, and they have decided to go shopping/bbq.

While walking out to eat, we saw zw & br and then we went out to eat together. We went to the wan-ton stall to eat. Their wan-ton is very huge. Each bowl contains about 10 wan-tons. It is very filling when I finish everything. Had a catch up with Joyce as well.

After dinning, we went to play snooker/pool in one of the street called 破街 "Broken Street". It is named that because the street is dirty.

While on the way to the snooker/pool shop, we saw a few of the rowdy students and overheard them saying about something funny "她有男朋友吗?" Then we laughed rather loud. He looked at us and said something to us. I think he thought we laughed at him.

We had a good time playing snooker/pool, underground. Anyway, the shop is opened by a foreign teacher in WUST. So the shop is a safe place to hang out. Furthermore, the friendly shopkeeper are students from WUST as well.

Reflections of the day: As a foreigner, I think we should be more humble & don't comment so much. Especially in our reactions to certain gestures/speech from others. Taking today's incident of that rowdy student for example, if we didn't ignored him, he might have a gang behind and could come crowd over us, then trouble would be evoked. Thus, I've ought to learn to be wise in my reactions especially in my actions and emotions about in certain sensitive situations.

Signing out,

2.03 Chinese

Today I woke up a little late. But in the end, we still managed to catch up with the class. Today's IS topic was very interesting for me as it's part of my learning plan.

the crowd walking in the main entrance (the place we took bus)

The topic is about Contemporary Chinese Political System and Economic Environment.

Guess what? The teacher - "Mr. Tan (陈老师)" who taught us, isn't a proficient in that topic but he's an English teacher! He's a trainer of english teachers.

陈老师

He is very good as his presentation skills inspired me. He doesn't have loads in a slide but he has it in point form and only have 7 slides that contained us for 2 hrs! Isn't that powerful? I think he's admirable as he's english standard is good, furthermore he presented in good sentences. I like his style of presentation. Here goes, 陈老师。。。:

皮蛋豆腐/麻婆豆腐

武昌鱼(famous fish dish in Wuhan)/sweet soup

The fish is very nice as it's tender flesh is so soft that it would just melt in your mouth with its fragrant gravy!

After having lunch and bought snacks from the super market opposite the food stall, we went back to our dorm. and after awhile, I went out to look for Joyce in the library.

We had a short catch up about our agenda in WUST and then after awhile, we went to have dinner with the rest of the leaders. Luckily we met together first otherwise Joyce gonna be late again as she claimed that she's always late in meeting.

"Yu Wan"

The flesh of a carp, shark or freshwater fish is pounded into a fine and soft paste from which the bones are carefully removed, flour is added and the mixture is then beaten to a smooth consistency to make a wrapping for a variety of stuffings. These can be of muscles, shrimps or sturgeon for example and small balls are thus created. There is an old saying 'if there are no fish balls, there is no dinner'.

our scrumptous dinner! (they really ordered alot)

During dinner, we had about 5 cups of white wine and discuss about another interaction activity that is going to be carried out on next wednesday. It was a fun evening as we came from school and it was drizzling while on the way. To their surprise that we all wore our sweater (I got mine from Guanbin *thanks to him* otherwise I'll be freezed!) And we're outstanding with the others! That is so funny! The ladies then called koklong and rest of us "Shaou" (foolish in another dialect). Anyway, we had a good time and while sending Joyce home, I noticed that her appartment building looks very deserted and dark. Thus she told me that the appartment contained most of the foriegn workers, other students, etc.

The best thing of the day is the scrumptous lunch and dinner!
Wuchan Yu (Fish) & Yu Wan (Fishball)

Reflection of today: During my lunch and dinner, I faced and noticed two similar situtions. The people who drinks and eat, they talked very loud! I was wondering if it is their culture to be able to talk loudly when one's drunk or something? Or maybe are they originated from Hankou? One more thing is that I called the waitress "小姐", which is used inappropriately. Instead, I was prompt that I should call them "美女"! Somehow, I feel likes I'm making fun of them. But anyway, I'll be checking out with the locals and get my answers soon.

Furthermore, today after learning more about China's culture and politics, I felt that there's so much interest and good business point for businessmen to engage in. However, one have to be knowledgeable about the location first before engaging in it. If there's an opportunity, I would really love to take the chance to advance on in China! In my opinion, I think that there's a wide potential that China could be further improved but only at a slower pace.

Ok for now, I've to go to take my sleep already. To ALL, God Bless and Have good week ahead! Take care and don't forget to brush your teeth before you sleep.

2.02 Interaction

Today morning I woke up quite last min and we went to c3 to have breakfast again. By the NP policy, we reached in class on the dot 915am! But anyway, we started lesson quite late. I think we need to be more punctual. And I supposed that I can have early rest from now onwards as I've caught up with my journaling!

walking up a hill/crowded with several students

We learnt about terms of reference (TOR) in PM today. I find very useful for a project manager, especially coming in terms of tracking agenda & looking out for a contigency plan.

outside our classrm with Mr. Tan (he has a funny smile as always)/gotcha funny ladies!

It was the first time we (guys) took this bus! It was kinda fun and the best part, cheap! After the fast and bumby ride, we went off for lunch @ c2.

WUST hotel near c2

inside the hotel

Today in c2 is very different from other days. Instead of the usual ordering of rice at any stores, this time round they opened only 2 store and we've to queue up for our rice. Guess what? stunnedBoy (cheng teck) ordered a normal rice *abit miscomm and he got a hill of RICE (unsure if it's 60 or 80 cents) it's seriously alot. But somehow as we had little for our breakfast, he managed to whack everything!

I like this alot...

"tha gars" walking back to dorm!

At night 7pm! Interaction Activity (IA) has officially started! It's my first experience to engage with the China students It was good as we managed to get to know more about each other culture and personal life through the activities. Although it's just a short period of time to chit chat and get to know each other more, at least we get a basic detials of each other's identity. The IA took place from 7pm to 10pm, with loads of entertainment & games going on here and there in the school of Foreign Language. Enough said.

Here are the highlights of the evening:
i) Singing by one of the best local singer in WUST
ii) Indian dance by a troupe
iii) Chinese caligraphy
iv) Games
v) Final touchdown (songs going on, final catch up, pictures, performmance) *Closing

gathering of about 80 people/host of the day (amanda, koklong)
best singer/indian dance troupe
caligraphy (looks super nice) "Long Chen Wan Li"

my partner (Joyce in pink) and myself's first team in our station 03.
2nd game (drum/music chair)/1st game (untangled arms)
meiling & me/group pic (beside me the 2 of them is good dancer + singer) I can't dance...
GMs for the game station 03/joyce,me (she commented I look very dark! she's white "lah")
Today's wrapped up is about here. It's very fun and exciting for me eventhough the day is long & tired. Well, its fortunate that I get to know my nice partner and she's from "Hangzhou"! Doesn't she looks like Joey Meng, a Hong Kong actress from the show "My Date with a Vampire" - Ma Xiao Ling?

Reflections of the day: I noticed some difference when both of the culture meets. Most of them understood english & knows how to speak it too. However, some of them couldn't catch the phrases I used as they commented that I spoke too fast. thus, I've learnt to speak clearly & slowly until they are used to our accent. So then they are able to catch, understand and digest what I said.

Apart from their speech issues, I feel that they are very enthusiastic when coming in collaboration in carrying out the activities & giving forfeit ideas. I feel and assumed that they don't care about shyness in the public as much as we do, but all they want is simply to have fun!

I'm really looking forward in getting to know more about the local students!

I felt that the local student leaders & game organisers had really put up a good job in planning & executing! Also, importantly the local students are very friendly as hosts in putting up so much of the entertainment for everyone!

meanwhile, people please take good care!
